On a Pomp & Sass Turkish towel, the logo is woven into the cloth, not printed on top of it, a technique founder Nikky Starrett has called extremely rare in promotional merchandise. Every towel starts on a family loom in Denizli, Turkiye, and ships from Oakville, Ontario, to clients that include CIBC, Mazda, doTERRA and JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka. It is the kind of detail that turns a gift into something guests keep asking about.
Meet Nikky Starrett, the maker behind Pomp & Sass
Nikky Starrett runs Pomp & Sass from Oakville, Ontario, designing Turkish towels woven with location and brand specific art rather than printed patterns. Starrett has a background in illustration and textile design, and spent years in product development and design education before starting the company.
In a 2024 interview with Toronto Guardian, Starrett described the path that led here: a neurological disability diagnosed at 18, a period of infertility, and the birth of a daughter, Fern, that both eased their health and gave them the motivation to build something of their own. Starrett has said they wanted to close a gap in the Canadian market for gifts and merchandise made ethically and sustainably, without building a business on someone else’s hardship.
Because Canada has no industrial weaving machines left for this style of towel, Starrett partners with a multi-generational manufacturing family in Denizli, Turkiye, the traditional home of the peshtemal. Starrett is WBE Canada certified as a women and non-binary owned business, and describes themselves as a disabled founder building a company that gives back to women in Canada.
What Pomp & Sass makes
Pomp & Sass makes Turkish towels, also called peshtemals, from long strand Turkish cotton: thin, absorbent, and quick to dry compared with a standard terry towel. The core line covers body towels, hand towels and towel sets in solid colours and destination inspired patterns, each finished with hand knotted tassels.
For corporate orders, Starrett designs a client’s art into the weave itself instead of adding a printed or embroidered patch afterward, so a logo, crest or destination motif becomes part of the fabric. Stocked styles ship with a minimum order of 500 dollars; catalogue and fully custom styles carry a minimum of 100 towels per size and style, with no design fee on catalogue customization.
The values built into every towel
Pomp & Sass is certified by WBE Canada as a women and non-binary owned business. The company is open that it is not yet Fair Trade certified: the yarn supplier it works with does not hold the FLOCERT certificate that designation requires, and Starrett has said the business does not yet have the purchasing power to meet that supplier’s minimum order.
What is certified is the manufacturing itself. Production runs under OEKO-TEX certification, meaning the finished towels are tested free of harmful chemicals. The Denizli manufacturer pays workers fairly, keeps a clean and safe workplace, and hires men and women equally.
The product is built to generate little waste: 100 percent of the towels and more than 95 percent of shipping is plastic free, swing tags are recycled paper, and packaging is limited to tissue paper and a compostable mailer. A portion of profits goes to the Canadian Women’s Foundation.
How Pomp & Sass works with corporate teams
Custom orders start with a consultation about a company’s brand, colours and location, followed by design proofs Starrett sends over as a PDF before anything goes into production. Clients do not need to arrive with their own artwork: Starrett develops the towel design from a brand’s assets and gets approval before the manufacturer weaves it. One project, a custom piece for Elora Mill Spa, went from consultation to finished towels after a single round of email revisions.
Three purchasing paths structure the order sizes: stocked styles for orders as low as 500 dollars, catalogue styles customized with a client’s logo and colours at a 100 towel minimum, and fully exclusive designs for a one time design fee, also at a 100 towel minimum. Larger volume orders are available on request.
Pomp & Sass’s own client list, current as of mid-2026, includes Niagara Parks, Ste. Anne’s Spa, Elora Mill Spa and WeShall Investments, plus custom projects placed through promotional merchandise distributors for CIBC, Mazda, doTERRA and JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka. Beautycounter has ordered custom towels for a consultant celebration, and recording artist Jess Moskaluke featured a custom Pomp & Sass towel in her Handpicked by Jess collection.

Frequently asked questions
Is it made in Canada?
The towels are woven in Denizli, Turkiye, by a family manufacturer Pomp & Sass turned to once it needed industrial weaving equipment Canada no longer has. Design, quality control and shipping run out of Oakville, Ontario, and orders to Canadian addresses ship free.
Can we add our logo?
Yes. Pomp & Sass weaves a client’s logo, crest or destination art directly into the fabric rather than printing it on top, starting from either a catalogue style or a fully custom design built around your brand.
What quantities work?
Stocked styles have a 500 dollar order minimum, and catalogue or fully custom styles have a 100 towel minimum per size and style. Larger volumes are available for bigger corporate programs.
Is it certified?
Pomp & Sass is WBE Canada certified, and its Turkish manufacturer operates under OEKO-TEX certification, meaning production is tested free of harmful chemicals. The company is open that it is not yet Fair Trade certified, because its yarn supplier does not hold the FLOCERT certificate that designation requires.
Pomp & Sass turns a functional gift into something with a story attached, from the loom in Denizli to the client list it has built one consultation at a time. For a corporate buyer, that means a towel with your brand woven in, not stuck on.
